Question Dgrma.Winter Wonderland White Fairy seedling

Hi

I bought this last October and it had two pseudobulbs. It has now produced a side shoot and all is healthy. Is this a flower shoot or is my plant too immature?

How big do they have to be to flower and which season would I expect it to flower in?

I am growing it about four feet from an east facing window and it got some cool nights over the winter. Any tips or advice gratefully received.

Thanks

Hi Hedge,

I have 2 of the Dgrma.Winter Wonderland White Fairy that I divided earlier this year. You may get a spike from yours but who knows. A flower spike will look different. You will see a straight spike come from inside the bottom leaf area. Having new growth shows you are doing something right. FYI mine are outside in east sun (sunscreeded patio) it gets hot here during the day 80's+ and it doesn't mind it.

I'm not sure how cool it got for you but these guys can take 48. I just don't let mine stay in 48 with wind. The wind seems to hurt chids the worst.

I don't know exactly when they like to bloom and mine hasn't yet but I can't wait.

I also have this one and it blooms on and off all year for me. My plant is quite a bit larger than yours, though. I grow outside with dappled sunlight. They are fast growers, so hopefully you will get a flower spike fairly soon.

Thank you. Actually I was incorrect in stating it was four feet away. It's actually on the window sill. I agree about wind, it does for a lot of plants. Indoors, night time temps rarely get down below 55 degrees so it should be ok. I just have to avoid the direct sun at this time of year before the leaves are fully out on the neighbours tree which provides dawn to ten am dappled shade. Things have been a bit late here this year. We had snow at Easter and a week or two later, not normal for here.
