Hi all....I am new to this group, and previously have had sporadic luck with orchids, but very determined to change that. My question: I have a beautiful Phrag, just getting ready to bloom, but one of the new leaves coming up is brown... I have well water. Is this from too many minerals? Do I need to get a ph testing kit?
it's best to ask new questions in a new thread. More people will see it. Maybe one of the moderators will pull out your comment and make a new thread.
We need more information whenever you post a question. Temperatures day/night, relative humidity? What is it potted in? What kind of light? How are you watering? How do you decide when to water?
Phrags need to stay very moist to wet. Are you watering it enough?
When you've posted 5 posts you can show us photos. But some people can post photos earlier. So if you can, go ahead.
Anybody with a well should have their water checked every 1-2 years just for their own safety. When you do that they should tell you everything in your water. Depending on where in the US you live, your water might contain lots of minerals, or not many. The only way to tell is testing.
I watered Phrags with water containing a very high amount of dissolved minerals and had no problems doing so.
