How big will dendrobium get?
Default How big will dendrobium get?

Hello all,

I heard that some dendrobiums get very large. However I am wondering if this one could be a miniature? I've had it for one year only. I bought it on discount at a garden center. No tags, no instructions. It's in full bloom now and I'm looking to repot it once the flowers fade. It has quickly taken over the small clay pot by spreading. Knowing how big it could get would help me determine the right size or set up.

Any ideas are appreciated.

Looks like it has a lot of D. bigibbum in it, potentially cross with a more diminutive species or hybrid, so I think those growths are likely near their largest.

As impressive as that is, I wouldn't divide - imagine the how in a larger colony!

That is really beautiful. I agree, it is probably full sized now. Many in this group are very large plants, but breeders have been trying to reduce the size so they fit on windowsills.

Ohhh. Ok thanks. You just saved the day then... Because I was about to divide it and make two plants lol. Maybe I should leave it... Plant it in a nice big clay vessel and let it go crazy. 🤔

I think you have just become my personal orchid advisor.

Yeah. So maybe it's a short spreader... All good. I'll let it do it's thing
