struggling P. (or E.) cochleata

I've been having a hard time with this plant. Most of the roots have died. We just moved into a different house so I'm hopeful the different environmental conditions will suit it.
As you can see it is developing some new very small roots. The substrate is orchid bark with just a little leca thrown in (in the hopes of increasing drainage).
I welcome advice. I would love to see this plant bounce back and thrive.

What's your temperature range? I grow mine in medium bark (so a bit more water retention). Mine gets cold - I grow it outside, winter lows to 4 deg C or occasionally lower but warmer days. I am sure that it doesn't need the cold, but it tolerates it. I have found that in general, Prosthechea/Encyclia tend to like to stay a bit more damp than Catts.

One thing when you repot - you will probably need to add a stake or two, to hold it firmly in place. If it wobbles, new roots tend to get damaged, and stop growing.

This plant requires a large amount of water. It shouldn't dry out during the growing season. It looks like it has been too dry.

I have a warmer climate, but unless I stand my plants (in bark) in dishes of water, they suffer greatly.

The new, old, house is heated in part by wood. This does make the air dry however we've only been here a week. The prior living environment had a more steady heat source.
I had presumed that the rot in the roots was caused by too much moisture. Seems I may have been wrong in this regard.

Your plant has few, short roots. Your problem will be keeping it alive until it begins growing new roots. Consider somehow enclosing it to keep humidity high, and roots from drying out. If not, spray just the roots daily to keep them moist.

I would not succeed with such large bark. My near flowering sized seedlings, just a little smaller than your plant, are in seedling size bark.

Once it begins growing new roots they should grow down into the medium.
