Default After all the questions... The Vanilla is here!

So here it is, or I guess here they are.. Turns out there were 3 cuttings in the pot that was shipped to me, so they've all been pulled out and repotted in african violet potting soil on their own (thanks again Sue for confirming that for me.. )

I may have also picked up a few new pretties this afternoon.. Namely, a Black Jewel Orchid Plant - Ludisia discolor (the leaves were amazing, I couldn't pass it up) (pic here: Black Jewel Orchid Plant - Ludisia discolor - RARE) and a Epidendrum Yoko Yokohama (pic here: Yoko Yokohama Epidendrum Starter Orchid Plant - SALE*)

My husband has officially said no more orchids for me.. *pout* meanie. (okay the fact that there are close to 20 pots in the 2x14 area that is the front of the living room (where the good sun is) might have a little to do with this). I think this means that we just need a better, layered method of storing plants..

And because I know you guys are pic junkies.. here ya' go..

1) Learn the tricks: sneak plants in when your spouse isn't around.

2) I hate to burst your bubble, but the ludisia is hardly rare. Lay it down in some fluffy , damp sphagnum and you'll have a whole colony in no time.

3) You are talking about 3 plants with entirely different needs: The ludisia is a shade lover, the vanilla likes it brighter, and the reed-stemmed epidendrum likes a lot of light. At least they all like to be warm!

1.) *snort* Not a bad idea..

2.) Oh, that's their text from the link, I just was being lazy and didn't go back and edit it.. I just think it's pretty, don't much care whether it's rare or grows in blankets around the corner. (though if it's in blankets around the corner I'd likely leave it there since I can enjoy it there.. )

3.) The nice thing about my space is that I can work easily with all three needs. I'm doing my homework on the two new ones still for details, but.. My house does a huge range of sun options (from huge southern exposure, to filtered eastern, to western heavily filtered. I think that I'll be okay on that front.. And given that I am growing everything from tropicals that need daily mistings, to succulents that want to dry out nearly completely before they're watered again, I don't mind working with a variety of plant needs.

thanks for your help though.

My husband tells me no more orchids also. I think that started last year sometime....don't know, I have tuned that out. I constantly rearrange my plants so he doesn't know what I have, where I have them, or which one is which. That is how I trickle them in. The down side to that is I don't always remember where I put them myself!
I love him dearly, but don't mess with an orchid addict.
I love your plants!

*snicker* I am nowhere near that devious.. I think I just need more shelves and such for my plants.

Though to be fair to my husband, he's mostly trying to make sure that since we don't have a fancy set up, so misting and light control and all are done by hand, and as Ray said, I'm not sticking to a single variety, that I don't end up with more flowers than I have time to care for.. I think he's WRONG, but I respect where he's coming from hehe..
