Appearance of leaves
Default Appearance of leaves

As my rehab of the inherited orchids continue, more and more questions! I appreciate everyone helping.

What is causing the changes in the leaves that look like something took a bite out, and now it looks like a woody edge on each?

Pic included

I am working on improving hydration if that is a factor.

It looks to me like mostly mechanical damage - those plants had a rough life for awhile. Dehydration might have been a factor too, causing leaves to be stunted and not develop properly. As long as new growth looks good (responding to good care) , they likely will be fine. In time, the damaged leaves will drop once there are enough good ones. In the meantime, they're contributing even though they look bad.

Orchids with semirigid leaves often have leaves split down the middle from the tip when chronically dehydrated. The other issues could be from leaves scraping on pot edges or media. If it was a bug that chewed it would have been something larger like a grasshopper or large snail.
