I would increase the size of the holes in the pot in order to allow more air exchange.

I agree. The holes as they are add little ventilation value. Either add more holes of the same size, or make them bigger and also add a few more holes.

I like to concentrate the holes in my pots towards the bottom. The top of a pot dries faster.
