Stinky rainwater collection

I was thinking that the water needs air. Many of the causes of root rot thrive in oxygen-poor environments. (i.e. Phytophthora, certain types of bacteria and fungus). I would not water your plants with it until you know what is causing the water to smell...just to be safe.
