Cattleya growth getting some rot
Hey OB, I picked this new cattleya up at the Alamo Orchid Society vendor fair. It’s one I’ve been wanting called C Marilyn Lew. But it’s the largest cattleya I’ve worked with and 1/4 dowiana. The pot is the only one I could find that’s small enough and it’s loosely potted in charcoal, perlite and bark chips. I did also flip a 2” netted pot upside down inside there to keep the center from staying wet.
I’ve mainly been spraying it in the morning and letting it dry out. There’s not much medium in the pot to keep it moist for too long. Today I did douse the whole pot heavily with a very light soapy solution to reduce fungus and the pot is still damp to the touch but evening. Why I didn’t do anti fungal measures before potting, I do not know. It’s 75 degrees F right now so I don’t expect it to be a major problem..?
There’s some yellowing leaves but they are the older ones. But I found this dark patch at the base of one of the bulb next to the newest growth. I know it wasn’t there before so it’s definitely me. I think about half the roots are looking dead but I didn’t trim any off before potting.
What can I do? Should I change something? Growing advice is also welcome.
