Stem rotting?
Default Stem rotting?

Hello,

I have an orchid that has black rotting (?) parts that are slowly expanding - is this of any concern?

Please see the attached photo- The bottom black part just showed up in about 2 weeks and the top got larger in around the same time..

Thanks!

Is the discoloration surface level, isolated to the leaf attachment points, or is the actual stem underneath impacted too? Is it soft/squishy or dry/papery/leathery?

Tell us about the growing environment and watering/care practices.

The part of discoloration are softer than other parts of the stem, I can’t really see whether the stem underneath is affected but the affected areas are definitely growing larger..

I water about every 4/5 days depending on weather, the orchid is in medium sized bark with some perlite and charcoal, I put a tiny bit of moss just to cover the exposed roots on top. The temperature where I’m at is about 24-28C and 50-60% humidity
