My Phalaenopsis are all dying!
Default My Phalaenopsis are all dying!

I'm wondering if someone could give me a piece of advice..

I own 11 phalaenopsis and four oncidiums.

Every single one of my phals all appear to be quickly dying allofasudden. Either completely yellowing and falling off bottom leaves, or white spots on the leaves.
I did take them outside a few weeks ago (It is very hot and humid here in North Carolina), and I'm wondering if they got some sort of fungus or just got burned from the sun.

My question for you is whether I am needing to throw them all away, or what to do to save or revive them?

Lastly, note that there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with my oncidiums.

Thank you so much!

Welcome to the Orchid Board!

It's hard to say without photos. Phals. are full shade plants that never need sun on their leaves. If they got full summer sun it is very possible they are sunburned. Whether they survive would depend on how much leaf survives.

You should be able to directly upload photos to OB after your account has made 5 posts. Don’t worry about the photo orientation when they show up, it’s a quirk of the system for them to load sideways for a lot of people, we’re all used to it.

You actually have four posts now. You posted once in someone else's thread. Just one more. Type something below mine, anything at all.

Yikes. That definitely looks like sunburn, that may have further progressed into some kind of bacteria/fungus taking over the compromised tissue. I’ve no experience with this level of sunburn but if the tissue is soggy or wet feeling, it’s a bad sign. If the spots are dry, they should recover eventually. Others should have good advice for you.

Sadly, that does look like bad sunburn. In picture #3 you can see how the bottom leaf has a clear line of delineation where the leaf above shaded it somewhat.

Not sure about the white spots. It's hard to tell from the pics but I'm wondering if those can be wiped or rubbed off. If not, and they seem to be part of the leaf tissue, maybe they're connected to the sunburn somehow.

I'm sure you'll get more replies and hopefully some suggestions for how you might save them.
