The Leaves on my Den. Miva Abracadabra not opening right
Default The Leaves on my Den. Miva Abracadabra not opening right

I have a Den. Miva Abracadabra. When it grow new leaves instead of opening up smooth like the old leaves they look crumpled at the bottom of the leaves and they never flower. Has any one had this problem? Do you know what I might do to correct it?

First, Welcome!
A photo would help a lot. (Some have had the experience of needing 5 posts to add a photo, but I have seen photos from other new members that seemed to work fine) Also more information about how you are growing it. Temperature? Light? Watering? My first thought would be that it isn't getting enough water. That symptom shows up a lot on thin-leaved members of the Oncidium group. Dendrobiums? I haven't seen that symptom. If water, the next question is, when was it repotted? If the root system is good, more frequent watering probably needed. But if the medium is broken down causing root rot, more watering won't help, would need repotting in fresh medium to give an opportunity to grow new roots. As for not flowering, if the plant is unhealthy then it's putting resources into survival rather than blooming. But if healthy, lack of light is the most common cause. So... lots of questions and "maybes" here, more information would help for getting more useful information.

Welcome to the Orchid Board!

Yes, it would be good to know more about how you're growing it.

Yes to what was said already.

I have seen this problem in Dendrobiums. It is usually from root damage. No roots = insufficient hydration = accordion leaves.

Check the roots. Gently remove the plant out of the pot and actually inspect it to see what the roots look like. Do not just look at the canes, leaves, or flowers and assume there are living roots on the plant.

To remove the plant from the pot, it is safer to wet the potting medium thoroughly first. Living orchid roots are less likely to get damaged when they are wet (they become less brittle and more pliable).

Posting pics are preferred whenever possible.
