Is this a nodosa spike?
Default Is this a nodosa spike?

Hi all,

I have a B. Nodosa cross, and I noticed this small growth that is growing on a new leaf. Is this a spike?

If it is, does this type of orchid commonly spike on new growths?

That is likely a spike. Brassavola nodosa leaves are very thick, so it looks a little different from the standard Cattleya alliance sheath coming from inside a leaf folded in half.

And yes, that's normal timing for a spike.

That's where the spike comes from on a B. nodosa. And like ES says, it does look like a spike.
