Haha, thanks y’all. I’ve followed this board for long enough and have never come across anything like that!
On the other hand, I have this orchid that keeps blasting buds. It was blooming great in the Fall, then when the blooms were done I cut back to the last green node - budded but they all blasted. Cut it back again, but now I see this…
I’ve increased the light (about 2’ from south window), watering, and fertilizer (3-12-6). Roots look fine to me, starting a new leaf. Is it telling me it needs a break?
Maybe it needs that magic fungus.

Bud blast can be caused by drafts, or temperature changes. More subtly, it can be caused by the ethylene gas given off by ripening fruit, or from a very tiny leak from a gas stove. I don't think that the Phal needs, or wants, that much light. With those good roots, and a new leaf starting, it may just need to focus on growing for awhile. While Phals can be in bloom for a really long time, they don't stay in bloom nonstop. Let it grow! There will be more flowers when it's ready. No "magic fungus" (magic mushrooms???)

Thank you! Must be patient.
Since the last bud blast I moved it to a room where it’s consistently 23 C and 54% humid, no drafts. Can be moved to the side of south window where its friends are.

I repotted two others into 8” pots a year ago (ordered the wrong size) and they’ve been growing leaves and roots like crazy, but there’s finally a flower spike appearing on one after almost TWO YEARS since it was in bloom. I’m assuming they’ve been focusing on growing into their larger pots.

I'd suggest moving it with its "friends", that area seems to be successful.
