Watering insanity

what brand are you using, Roberta? my 2 gallon pump just died so i am in need

Not to derail current convo, but I started watering this morning and found two adjoining pots have become ant colonies in the last week. Had to wash my arms off, I was swarmed. A t-spoon with an ant killer was deployed sitting on top of the pots. Gotta love 'them' surprises!

I have found that these have a finite not very long, lifetime... the valve part eventually dies. Wish one could just get that part and save the tank, but it seems that each time I buy one it is different. And the part isn't available for any reasonable price. I have a Hudson sprayer that I think I got at a landscape supply place instead of Home Depot that is lasting a bit longer, but I have placed plenty of these in the recycle bin. I'd get whatever is handy and figure that it will last maybe a couple of years if you're lucky.

Remembering to occasionally use a bit of 3-in-1 oil around the moving parts will extend the life. But nope, no unicorns around here. <sigh>

When I was still managing a farm, I asked a few pest management professionals about quality pump sprayers and they suggested Petra Tools. They were definitely buying the more expensive sprayers with larger capacity, backpacks, batteries, etc., but the 1-gallon pump sprayer I bought has been great the last few years. Of note, mine gets used occasionally. Probably no more than 6-12 times a year.
