Vanda with Black Spots?
Default Vanda with Black Spots?

I have several vandas that I got from a reputable vanda grower about 3 weeks ago. The three smaller ones have developed some black spots on the leaves.

Location: west central Florida, near the coast

Environment: outdoors, very dry conditions (for Florida), some cool snaps (down to 50s at night) but mostly quite warm

They did not have much to the roots when I got them and I have been watering them at least once a day, often twice.

I am not sure whether to be worried or not.

Note: I looked at several other posts about black spots on vandas and am unsure about these still.

I don't see any issue. Maybe the low temperatures, combined with "shipping shock". A lot "cleaner" than many of my plants, I don't worry about anything that isn't spreading.

Those look like anthocyanin spots, a sign of high light. You don't need to move the plant until it is completely purple or if it starts burning.

Motes has written Vandas may develop red spots and coloring during cool weather when they are magnesium deficient. Add some Epsom salts to your fertilizing regimen once a week. A tablespoon / 15 ml of powder in a gallon / 3.78 liters of water will work. He wrote it can take months to replenish magnesium stores.

Great! Thanks for the information, everyone! I just wanted to be sure I didn't have a problem on my hands.
