Would redwood be okay as a mount?

I once tried redwood when I acquired a couple of pieces. I don't recall which plant(s) I tried but the roots didn't attach. I don't know if it was the texture or some chemical that the wood gave off or just a picky plant. If you were to try anything from this "event" I would suggest the bark rather than the wood. An ideal mount has lots of rough surface. Personally, I would not use it for a "one of a kind" plant, until I have tried it on other, more expendable plants and had success. (Dendrobium or Epidendrum keikis, for instance) So worth a try, but no "instant answer".

Thanks. I do try stuff... after a failure, I don't necessarily pursue a path further if there are alternatives. So redwood is in that category... didn't work for me, there are lots of alternatives that do (and I didn't have much of it) , so didn't try again. But it certainly could use some more investigation.
