Default Are the old yellow leaves supposed to fall of by their self?

When a Phal is growing new leaves, one of the old one turn yellow. Should i cut this of after its turned all yellow, or is it supposed to fall of by it self ?

Hi Lene, In my personal experience, yellowing leaves on my phals fall by themselves, so I'd say let it be

I agree with priz_m .. I let nature take it's course and let them fall as and when they will ...

Unless esthetics is a concern. When a leaf turns totally yellow, it's pretty much done. I personally don't like the looks of those leaves. I take pride in the appearance of my orchids, even if not in bloom and try to keep them clean. It's personal preference.

I agree with Ross. Its probably my biggest pet peeve to see a yellow leaf in a sea of green leaves. I have my handy shears nearby to handle the problem. But like he said. Its a personal preference.

I try to leave them alone until the drop - maybe with a little tug of assistance - but I don't cut them.

Plants try to recover as much of the nutrition and water as possible from fading leaves, so why not let them have it?

I agree with Ray! yellowing leaves are normally been sucked by the plant to retrieve as much ntrients as possible. That's a nutrient saving nechanism in all plants! so, if it not for steticreasons, or the risk of that leaves been infected by fungis or bacteria, I would leave them until they fall off (as Ray said, also with a bit of help from my side )
