I am wondering if it will be possible for me to grow a Phalaenopsis Gigantea in my yard, or home.
I live in coastal Orange County, CA.
Care sheets say it prefers daytime temps of 85-90, and nighttime about 71 to so. I've also read that temps under 60 are problematic.
Does anyone have knowledge and or personal experience. of this orchid? From what I've read, it seems like it might require a greenhouse with very specific conditions. Or else you might have to move it in and out of the house.
Of course I have learned on this forum that many Orchids can survive in perfect health outside of the parameters most commonly depicted as limitations, for laypersons.
So I'm wondering, can I grow this mostly outside where I live, bringing it inside when necessary? I do have shade houses, and a mini greenhouse just a couple square feet footprint which I can use specifically for the giant Phal (to boost humidity and maybe temps). Or is growing the Phal. Gigantea limited to a climate controlled greenhouse?
I am thinking if I must, I could keep it in the little collapsible greenhouse indoors, with full spectrum lights, humidity and temp controls, though this isn't an investment I'd like to make right now.
Hopefully keeping one outdoors with some extra attention and special conditions is possible?!
