Default Division disaster

Hello all,

I had an accident while dividing a Cattleya plant. This plant had a rotten section, so I decided to out the bad part. I used a single use razor but I guess I didn’t cut all the way through, and an extra piece of rhizome got gouged out when I tried to separate the sections. It was a bit like a hangnail the got pulled.

I circled where the division was cut from in red, the place where the rhizome was damaged in blue (it looks brown because I covered this in cinnamon. It was green.) , and the new eye and a root in purple. Is the new eye doomed? Am I going to have to cut out a whole additional bulb because of this error? Is a bad infection imminent? I hope not because it isn’t a well plant and there are only three other mediocre-at-best growths.

Is there any chance something like this just callouses over and doesn’t affect the rest of the plant or nearby possible leads?

I can't see it very well on my phone. You never know what will happen. It might be fine.

I can't tell much from that picture but from your description it doesn't sound like anything happened that would be fatal to the plant.

Clean tools, clean workspace, green wounds protected and the work done when new roots are appearing and all should be good.
