I have one, it's delightful, but I can see the end in sight for the blooms. I've read that ratty leaves should be trimmed off, and I'm guessing the spent bloom spike should also be trimmed off, but I haven't found any specific details so wanted to ask.

Well it's not going to rebloom, so unless you want seeds to form..yep, it's of no use.
