Welcome to the Orchid Board.
That is a great idea.
I have 22 Phals and I'm always looking for places to put them in the house.
I have Cedar here that, with some chainsaw work, could look like that and hang horizontally.
I water in the kitchen sink so the plank(s) would have to be shorter than my double sink.
If you attach them firmly and hang it vertically you can water it in the shower.

Here is something els i made that is kinda fun and easy too. It's a leftover piece of 2X8 scrap from another project I stained and added 3 pot clips, The purpose is to rotate what's in bloom in my home. Thank you again
Phals in habitat normally grow sideways, with the leaves dangling. The crown is sideways so water runs out. When grown in pots most of them immediately begin leaning as they grow. If you attach them to a horizontal mount with the crown facing up, then rotate the mount to vertical, the crowns will hang sideways and drain.
