Don't cut roots... before you repot, rinse well under running water. (Any loose velamin, the coating on the roots, will wash off, and that is OK... it's the core of the root that actually moves water) Then with fresh medium that gives the root zone air, most problems with any sort of rot will tend to resolve naturally. Even a "bare" root core can help to hydrate the plant until it grows some good new ones. But other than roots, the plant has no way to take up water.
