you guys know that i had watered my catasetum before it filled the pot with roots because it was drying out . but after that the roots never really took off, and the leaves are getting bigger and bigger, but it is not looking anything like the fat bulbs i see online. i know it wont bloom, but what do i do now?
One thing to note... once Catasetinae get into their "growth spurt" in the spring, they are both thirsty and hungry. So water a lot (you can't overwater them) and a top-dressing of time-release fertilizer gives them a boost, if your regular fertilizing falls short.
Oh, and don't give up on the hope for flowers... depending on the parentage, even some fairly skinny ones can bloom. Bloom time varies with parentage, many don't do it until late in the season, some even after leaves are gone and dormancy started.) And it is still early in the season so it is likely to get bigger. So water, fertilizer, sun (a little shading at mid-day so that leaves don't toast but they do like good light) and heat all help. (If it is hot, just water some more)
