Help with Phal Gigantea yellow leaf tip rot?
Hello All, first post! I purchased this Phal (gigantea 'Sabah Queen' x gigantea 'Jiaho King') from Norman's because I wanted to lurk around the Longterm Phal Gigantea growing post here on the board. (And maybe I'd post if I didn't kill the plant.)
I ordered knowing that Norman's has a questionable reputation, but I decided to take a chance. Well.
I got the plant 12 days ago. I've done nothing but water it with distilled, room temperature water.
Yesterday I noticed one of the leaf tips looked yellow. While watering today, I touched the leaf tip and it looks not only yellow, but feels slightly squishy, and is a little transparent when you pass your finger behind it.
I don't think I could have done anything in the last 12 days to cause that. My first instinct is that it's rot of some kind and I'm tempted to cut with sterilized shears and dab the wound with cinnamon, but I decided to come here first before I panic and do the wrong thing.
I'm growing in Louisiana under Barrina grow lights. 70-75F with 55 - 75% Humidity. Good air flow provided by two fans.
I see no mechanical damage. I've not had a look at the roots because it came with some instructions not to repot for 30 days and that sounded reasonable to me and that would give me time to see how the plant l likes my conditions before repotting or not. It's in a loose bark mix that looks and smells fine.
I have no other plants with signs of bugs/disease/fungus of any kind.
I should note if it's not already obvious that I'm probably too new a grower to have purchased this plant, but I wanted to try.
Any assistance you could provide would be greatly appreciated. I paid too much for this plant (as I just found some fantastic looking seedlings at Brookside for half what I paid for this, and I could kick myself for not ordering from them instead. Lol.)
Thank you!!!
