Question Mystery Substrate

I have discovered this really bizarre substrate in two Dwarf Azaleas I bought on Etsy (white and pink). It's pretty much a light and dense black wax. It seems completely saturated, but when watered it runs right through. For this reason, I'm wondering if it might be used for Orchids. Also, does someone familiar with it know what it might be called?

Can you post a photograph? What is the particle size range?

I cannot see anything waxy being of value, other than a way to provide non-absorbing filler.

Why not contact the Etsy vendor and ask?

It sounds like what you're describing. I asked the seller, no answer yet.
