Another possibility is that sometimes Phal blooms start out that way before flattening out several days later. My Phal schilleriana is always so ugly when the blooms first open as they are similarily folded back. They then gradually flatten out and after about a week they are perfect.

Other than it being a 'first time blooming' issue, it could be genetic (I have a Phal which always has the dorsal sepal folded back.) I recall reading somewhere that this used to be much more common in phals and was a results of poor breeding, buit luckily it is much less common nowadays.

Thanks for the additional input! As long as it's healthy I don't if it looks like it's in a hurry to get somewhere (lol). Knowing at worst it's a genetic quirk makes me happy
