Dendrobium ‘Samurai’

On a culturing guide for the Dendrobium ‘Samurai’, I read that this species/cultivar can thrive in sun with shade cloth as low as 30%, which I found surprising. Can anyone verify or refute this?!

Most Dens bred from the Den. antennatum Section tolerate a lot of light when bigger. A tiny seedling won't.

I see. This is a pretty big, mature plant. Is it also true that the higher end of light range will encourage more prolific flowering?

Normally yes. I don't know the ancestry of this one. If you go to orchidroots.com and look it up you can find the ancestors, then go to IOSPE to look up their light requirements. I think this plant might actually be Den. Sameri or Samerai.

i grow it in bright light- ES is right

i grow it along several other antelope dens and if you acclimate it slowly i think 30% is right on the money.


i have seen it spelled samurai, samari and sameri....?
