Leave it alone! It will find a place to go... will either attach (which is what it supposed to do) or go in a different direction, or branch, or make more roots. Don't try to be "smarter" than those roots... these plants are epiphytes and have been figuring this out for millions of years, how to attach to trees. Let your plants teach YOU, observe them... you will only harm them trying to teach THEM.

It's as impossible to correct orchids as it is to correct men.

Agree, I would leave it alone. The root might bury itself and stop growing, and that is ok. It might grow a branch, it might not. The plant will grow more roots.

for what it is worth, when mounting i try to place roots INTO those cracks and aim them at the holes and crevices.

the more the roots have to interact with the surface of the mount the better the hold and the happier the plant in the long run.

Are you all in favor of doing nothing , for the first two?[orchids.

Yes.

Do nothing = happy root attaching itself to wood. Happy, happy, happy roots.

Moving it around = dead root tip, or possibly an entire dead root.

The people that have given you the above advice have, cumulatively, probably 100+ years of experience growing orchids. 40 of those years are mine.

im guessing over 200 cumulative years

What's not hard? Growing orchids or accepting suggestions without questioning?
