As some of you know, since receiving this plant back in the spring of '21 it has exploded with new growth. In 5 months it put out 5 new PBs. Now there are two more! The 4 oldest of these new growths had developed sheaths. Two of those sheaths have dried and one has fallen off. The others remain green. This I'm not concerned with. The plant seems happy. There are two new growths (see pic). My question concerns what is in the other pic. One of the dried sheaths has fallen, and where it was there is a tiny green nub. Since I have little experience with catts and their relatives, I wanted to know if this could be the start of a flower spike? I know that time will tell, but it is just something I observed and wanted to know what the more experienced crowd thinks.

That little nub is the top of the P-Bulb.

Confirming BCJ's comment. It is the top of the bulb ------ no spike will come from that. But the nice thing is --- two growths are coming out. So if the lighting is pretty good ----- there definitely is a chance for those ones to produce spikes this year.

DOM. be patient with it... Ctt. (Lc) Gold Digger can turn into a huge and gorgeous specimen, so even if new growths don't bloom, they're just building up to something wonderful.

I just added a second light to the Martha tent, so lighting is pretty good. Once low temps reach a constant 60°f or better, they all go outside, where the light is direct under 50% shadecloth.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm happy watching this thing explode with growth. It really likes the s/h setup.

Well... with Cattlianthes sometimes the tops of pseudobulbs will surprise you. But don't get your hopes up.

Key West Orchid Society is having our annual Orchid "Fair" this weekend. It's a non-AOS judged event so we don't use the word "show" but we do a club judging and also ask the public to vote on best of show.

We have a few vendors and we also do a member co-op table. I've been chopping up my plants for 3-4 months in anticipation and one that got included was my specimen Gold Digger 'Orglade's Mandarin'.

I ended up having 3 nice divisions of roughly 8 pseudobulbs to sell and I still kept plenty of plant for myself.

The only real issue I have with the plant is that it's kind of a ramshackle grower. If you let them get too big they start to look like a Phyllis Diller or Albert Einstein hairdo.
