Default Newbie looking for some insight on watering and yellowing leaf

I was gifted an orchid from a friend so am not sure on the species, but have been looking through tons of information for caring for orchids and am just trying to see if I'm on the right track and to get some advice.

I've got one leaf that is progressively yellowing from the tip and am not sure why. A few photos here. One of my new flower buds seems shrivelled up but the other is still okay? I water it when the roots are a bit more white than in the photos and it sits a few feet away from a south facing window with semi-translucent curtains so it's not in direct sunlight but gets as much sun as we get in a Canadian winter.

Am I watering too often still? Is this normal yellowing for an old leaf or does it look like something specific that I can fix? Any other things I might be doing wrong?

Appreciate any feedback and insight!

First, Welcome!

First, the plant is a Phalaenopsis (hybrid). It looks like that leaf sustained some damage, likely before you even got it. That could have been sunburn, or some fungal issue, but the damaged part is dried up so you don't have an active infection. The plant may end up just dropping that leaf, but the rest of the plant is fine. (If you want, you could trim off the yellow part - use a sterilized cutter, or singlt-use single edge razor blade - you would not want risk transferring an infection to another plant.

Here is some good advice to get you started.
The Phal abuse ends here.

That's a healthy-looking phalaenopsis orchid. The bark seems pretty fresh, so there is no need to repot right away. The roots look great and aside from the one damaged/yellowing one, the leaves look great too.

The yellowing leaf looks like it suffered some damage, and the plant is in the process of dropping the leaf. Assuming it's not a bacterial or fungal infection (it doesn't look like it to me, but other people have more experience with diseases), the leaf will probably continue to slowly yellow all the way down to the leaf base and eventually dry out - after which you can gently remove it from the plant.
