Phalaenopsis Yaphon Cupid

Hello.

I fell in love with this phal when I first saw it. I tried to buy it but nurseries didnt have it. But at last in august i found it and i own it now.

After being in my home for about 1 month it started growing a spike (slowly and it paused for 1 month but it matured).

And this week as a new years gift it bloomed. But it doesnt look right. It has a orange lip but other uper 3 petals are not so yellow and have some pinkish smudges, dots.

The phal looks small and i think its blooming for the first time. Maybe the next time it will be better? Or does it get more yellow with time? Or did i get a fake/a look alike phall from a nursery?

PS. The phal in the 3 picture is a no id phal. I just find it interesting how the colour changes. The white flower is old and the yellow opened this week. The blooms also have a lemonly nice scent.

hi shani, thx for showing the 3rd no-id. It does look very interesting and fragrance is a nice bonus for a noid.

Not sure if the flower will improve on the yaphon, they do have spots on the flower, yours just has a hint of too much pink. It could be the time of year that it is flowering. More sun usually produces more intense flowers.

Than i should keep it in more warmer places in the house to see if any new buds are more yellow?

Agree. I once moved a phal from outdoors (75-95F summer Mississippi heat) to indoors (65-68F). The flowers in the two locations looked like they came from completely unrelated phals. If I could find the photo I'd post it. It was really shocking. At any rate, color variations are not unusual and can occur to varying degrees when changing nearly any culture parameter, but especially with variations in light and temperature. Flower color variations are not cause for concern.

I also have some yellow phals where the color fades as in your 3rd photo from yellow to a very light yellowish-tan over about 1-2 months as the flowers age.

Remember that the peach-colored "art shade" is actually a combination of yellow and lavender. One color may fade before the other, or as others have mentioned, develop at different rates (or to different degrees) depending on light and temperature. So variability in color - both in different bloomings, and over time for a given flower, is to be expected.

Well the faded-older bloom was yellow maybe a week and i didn't get a chance to take a picture and than it was too late. So now i was waiting for the flower to open and pictured it. After a week it gets almost white-a bit yellow. It fades very rapidly.

I will try to picture the third bloom and upload to see the differences in colour.

I also have a phal Papagayo and that one also faded but slower and it didnt get that white.

Genetics can do some strange things... generally I think that the violet-yellow combination in Phals does usually yield "peach" but likely not alwyas. In Paphs, yellow + pink gives white - Paph Armeni White is armeniacum (intense yellow) x delenatii (pink) The flowers open light yellow, then fade to pure white.

I like more the colour of the new blooms. I got this one a year ago and didn't really remember what colour it was and it got me excited. And when it bloomed i was like yes that's why i got it- it was a weird yellow-green colour that i liked. And when it fades to white i was a bit sad because i didn't remember happening that before. But than i found out that it also has a lemony scent and made me appreciate it more. I also have phal sunny that looks the same only it doesnt have a scent and it doesnt start so yellow but fades to same white colour.

Shame the one on the 3rd picture is NoID. Would be nice to know its genetics.
