Hi all
We have a cymbidium and I noticed some stains on his leafs. When viewed from above, it looks like a wet stain, and at the bottom it is as if some brown liquid was flowing on it.
What do you think it could be? Too much water? Or is it something worse?
It looks like some sort of fungal infection. I would suggest cutting the affected areas away. Sterilize tool (cutter, or razor blade) between cuts so that you don't spread whatever it is. You can dust the cut edges with cinnamon. But you have plenty of good leaves, so cutting away the affected parts should not harm the plant.
how much light does it get per day at the moment?
What is the lowest temperature it is experiencing?
I can't say for sure what causes it but gloomy cold days where the plant doesn't get enough sunlight contributes imo.
Cyms shouldn't care about cold... but if something splashed on it from another plant, could start an infection. (Mine are out in the cold and rain and are untroubled.. indoors is a more likely place for ailments, less air movement)
I agree indoors culture for Cymbs is not the ideal environment. Mine also grow outside year round, get low freezing temps and as high as 42ºC, sometimes it reaches 43 to 45ºC (we're talking about something like 104 to 113 F) and they never get any sun as they sit in a north balcony.
mine grow indoors and although I've never seen something like this on mine I have had some oncidium leaves develop less severe watery patches and the reason was imo due to lack of light and with the oncidium also probably temperature related.
If water splashed on it from a more serious plant then why ask about the less serious plant?
