Actually got renamed twice... Vandopsis parishii became Hygrochilus parishii before it became Phal. hygrochila. Whew!

I would really like to know why the powers that be have to mess with the taxonomy of plants well known for decades? It just messes with those of us whose interests are focused more on care and culture than DNA.

Taxonomy (Systematics) is concerned with what is related to what, and how closely. That's where the science goes. Does it mess up horticultural nomenclature? Definitely. But there have been changes for a very long time... at one time everything was classed as "Epidendrum" because they all grew on trees. We have come a long way in our understanding since those days, but in science, one has to take new knowledge into account. I'm not about to change all my tags to the genus du jour, especially knowing that we're not done with changes as new knowledge is acquired. A good cross-reference is handy (I love my Orchidwiz) but I figure that the more of these I can keep straight in my head, the more brain cells will stay with me as I go off into the sunset. It's good mental exercise. And interesting too.
