I would really like to know why the powers that be have to mess with the taxonomy of plants well known for decades? It just messes with those of us whose interests are focused more on care and culture than DNA.

Taxonomy (Systematics) is concerned with what is related to what, and how closely. That's where the science goes. Does it mess up horticultural nomenclature? Definitely. But there have been changes for a very long time... at one time everything was classed as "Epidendrum" because they all grew on trees. We have come a long way in our understanding since those days, but in science, one has to take new knowledge into account. I'm not about to change all my tags to the genus du jour, especially knowing that we're not done with changes as new knowledge is acquired. A good cross-reference is handy (I love my Orchidwiz) but I figure that the more of these I can keep straight in my head, the more brain cells will stay with me as I go off into the sunset. It's good mental exercise. And interesting too.

I'll agree on the mental exercise and the need for it. Now let me go find my drivers' license. I can't remember my name.

Most of the renaming is done so assistant professors can have publications when it's time for promotion to full professor.

Another update! SeattleOrchids shipped me another Phal/Vandopsis for free.. and accidentally sent me two. I'm not sure if they expect me to send one back, but its been a week since I got them and they havent contacted me so I assume they either dont know or dont care. Either way, I'm happy!
Here's all 3 of them now, the brown spots on the oldest are drying up but not spreading, other than that its healthy. Next to them is the Ascocenda ampullacea I got also got from their store.

I've repotted both of them, keeping the Phal in the same container just with fresh medium and placed higher up in the pot. The fragrans I put into a 4" plastic pot with new media as well, and after watering, the leaves have perked up again. Things are looking up! If both Phal's survive I might even try breeding them one day

I highlighted the issue right there. Also this could simply be tissue collapse from temperature changes.

It will take awhile, but with 3 of the Phal hygrochila, all looking good, you'll eventually have a space issue. Those get rather large! The vendor certainly needs a shout-out, they took very good care of you!

The didn't send two of them by accident. It's either they figured the orchid was a bit small, and sent two ----- or they sent an extra for nice reasons. When orchid sellers send something by mistake ------ the mistake will usually relate to the 'wrong' orchid --- as in not what was ordered.
Very nice in that you got two.

I've left some detailed 5-star reviews! I am noticing a little setback with the Prosthechea and MMM (new growths browning), but I'm that's probably just because of my dry home.
