A Keiki?!

Hi, all, I posted an update under separate cover on my monster Phal that is blooming for the second time this year. She’s now putting up another growth from the mid section by now, too, that could be a second flower spike but time will tell.

When I was feeding her today (we’ll call her Seymoura), I noticed this odd little nibblet had appeared at the end of the spike that bloomed last Spring. I’d opted to leave it intact after the last flower fell to see what she’d do.

Is this the beginning of a baby or is my Martian orchid just doing something strange (again)?

Might be another bud (or group of them) Just let it do its thing, and you'll know. Patience!

My first instinct is to say it's a flower bud, though from the photo, it does look a little different. I often have my Phals do that -- the old flush of flowers has mostly dried up and fallen off, but then a new extension starts on the end of the spike and several new buds appear. Whatever it is, it appears to be opening up, so you should know soon!

It almost looks like it has fasciated!

Hi, all - update on the above. My orchid, Seymoura, was indeed in the process of adding a slightly misshapen - but still beautiful - single flower to the end of the original spike. Pic attached. She also decided to outdo herself by developing 3 new spikes that are in the process of popping buds.
