If the roots are reaching the medium they don't have to lay down. But anticipate the new growth... Some of it will just go up into the air (this species seems to be a climber) but some of it will progress across the pot, with new pseudobulbs appearing in the direction that the growths with leaves You can leave it the way it is for now. As it grows, you see what I mean... when I pot a sympodial orchid (one that grows along a rhizome) I always put the oldest growth against on side of the pot, with the newer ones toward the middle of the pot, so that they can go several years before needing repotting. This one might grow more vertically, you can repot in a year or so when you observe what it is doing. Also... with all the aerial roots, you can strongly suspect that it comes from a humid area, so you will want to keep it pretty damp.

Once the weather warms up (February/March-ish) you can move this species outside, it should do fine in your climate, and it may be easier to keep it damp. Once outside it will acclimate to cool weather next fall.

Yup the species orchid business is just wild and they are very needy! Good thing I got a great deal on some of these unique orchids to try. Found a photo of this plant in basket to share. It is just like my worst bad hair day lol!
