Default leaf advice please

should i cut out this leaf spot?

the darkest spot of it, i believe was a burn from the led lamp i got but soon stopped using.
not sure why it looks like it spread a little.

i could cut it out and put cinnamon on where i cut.

if i do cut, should i cut “inside” the area, leaving a bit, or, should i cut into green/living a bit?

see pics!

thank you.

Is it "wet" or dry?
If it's wet, cut around it in green tissue and put cinnamom in the cut.
If it's dry, leave it for now if it's not spreading.

dry.
but, you see, it was just the darkest, smallest spot.
happened months ago.
now it’s larger. at least, i’m pretty dern sure it got larger and looks to me like it may get larger still… just my take on the pictures. black spot > brown > MARGIN of yellow > green.

If it happened months ago, the progression is rather slow... maybe it's just the leaf aging.

I believe I can safely say it’s not the leaf aging as I’ve lost lots of leaves before and I’ve seen how they naturally age. Unless, it’s aging around the old original burn spot. I guess that could be true that the spot doesn’t have anything to do with it.
however I just lost two leaves due to aging so and now I’m in blooming so I wouldn’t think it would drop right now.

What if my answer is that it’s wet then what would you have suggested?
because to touch it’s really neither dry nor wet of course it’s dry right at the blackest spot which is the original spot.

however I do think for now unless the spread starts to get faster which I think is why I’m asking maybe I believe it is getting faster. But if it wasn’t then I wouldn’t do anything due to the blooming which is going to go on for probably a long time well until next year I imagine. So maybe I should take action as a precautionary measure ?

having several problems here in my single phals 3rd year.
it seems the reproductive/blooming “brain” doesn’t care one iota. possibly a “pay later” scenario.

i got an indoor temp/humidity gauge.
because this year it’s colder in here for longer, all “day” for the plant is likely never above 72 Fahrenheit and 62%. mostly temp is in 60’s.

last 2 years i watered and fed every 3-4 days, now it’s like a week! with. even drier media than previously. i can even tell anymore when it needs water, very difficult. so i don’t, when in doubt. weird.

If you notice it is spreading cut around it. Make the cut on an healthy tissue area. Sterilize the blade before the intervention. Apply cinnamom on the cut.

Draw a circle around it with a permanent marker. Watch it closely. If it goes past the marker cut it. If not, leave it.

Hi tedro,
I'm sorry to see this happen to your phal. I consider your phal to be a bit of a brother to mine because both of ours were very purple beginning of the year.

I don't want to give the wrong advice regarding your issue but it does look a lot like the advanced damage I mentioned yesterday in the thread I posted in the advanced discussions section.
I know it is a lot to read and I am still forming conclusions - the damage you have can also be caused by too low temperatures.
Have you considered your temperature?
I don't know if reading the post I made yesterday will be beneficial to you but the fact that it has taken months to slowly develop and looks like a lot like the damage I mentioned. it starts off as purple. Then leaves get darker and if left to progress will develop brown necrosis at the leaf tips.
I don't want to say too much of the wrong thing so I will just say it does not surprise me if reading my post from yesterday would be beneficial for your orchid. I literally was thinking of yours when I was making the post since it was the reason I started experiementing and wondering if there was something that could be improved because of my purple phal.

So if you are willing to try something that might be considered quite experimental, read through the post I made yesterday. I don't think it should be the first consideration, the first consideration should be why did the roots die - that will have weakened the orchid the most. Then the rest follows. Maybe I am too obsessed with fertilizing at the moment.

I just want to give you alternative things to consider even if they might not be relevant at all. You as a grower have to ultimately try to understand what it is the orchid is trying to tell you. Like you I watched the purpling get worse at times, I had enough of it and I investigated.

I hope you can get to the bottom of your issue like I think I have with mine.

Edit: If you can get a close-up picture of one of your buds developing I'd really appreciate it to compare with mine.
I'm asking to see if there is any validity to what I'm saying as I'm starting to see some changes but if I could compare it to your freshly developing buds then I would have a better idea. Yours is the perfect phal to compare mine with and your picture is too small for me to see the buds properly.

hi Shadeflower, thank you very much!

i will read it. i’m slow.

but for now, how about these pictures? oops only one.
if not just ask.

also, i think i fed alot, it got watered alot… but that was all last “season”… last 2. this time, a repot… too much sphangnum and i probably stayed with my old patterns *by weight). however, my lighting conditions changed AND temp is now consistently 60’s and a chilly 60° every night (inside, i sleep here, cannot be changed) for some reason it’s cooler longer and almost, when coldest, always a cool breeze.

then again, I tried to compensate with a different light. That light caused the initial burn I really felt sure that was a little burn.

but that was a month or so before I discovered the root problem and repot it again after cutting off a bunch of dead roots. And frankly the root color looks like it had some kind of black stuff on it. I guess that’s root rot.

so i repotted yet again.

but after everything I did and it was spiking when I did the last stuff the spike sure has kept going. The air roots are still OK. And she seems to be hanging in there. I almost have no idea when to water it anymore so I just wait as long as I can probably a week!

i think it has alot to do with cold. hoping it can adapt. so far, she’s hanging in. if we can make it to veg stage, next spring, i think we can recover.

also, as nice someone has been suggesting, i did lower the light: after i dumped the new lamp, i got another like the one i had, so still more light. i turned off AND raised height of original higher than last 2 years. which, with added cold — lights make no heat — lots of stuff.

and my a/c is not being operated any differently other than maybe a 2 hr shift… unintended side effect is stays cold longer. all while plant is “daytime” (12 hours of light).

steady on from here.

i could only one pic. more tomorrow. apologies.
