i think it would like its own “enclosure” for warmth and humidity. it would take much adjustment from the way i live ~ it lives 10 feet away 24/7.

but i’m too … lazy… to investigate that area.

this year, i sleep during 3/4 of phal’s 12hrs of “daylight.” and that’s when its cold/coldest. once i’m up a/c gets shut down. today i checked the gauges at the coldest 59°. humidity 58%. right now is 68°. 3 hrs into phal’s night… only, there are some low lights on, this is where and when i am awake doing stuff. or watching tv.

(i used to have a large indoor grow of 100’s of another type plant, so i’m not completely ignorant. in fact, i had once a very large aero-ponic system, using “grow rocks”… big rotating 1000watt lights. …but i went back to lightweight synthetic? “dirt”. …all decades ago. before led.)

thank you for the picture tedro.
Looks very similar to mine I have to admit so still inconclusive.
I am hoping for the winter not to be too harsh and pass quick. Mine is not 100% either and I haven't got the space to give it a better spot.

I really like the look of the bettergrow orchidplus, if it had added calcium in the bag it would be a seriously impressive fertilizer. But it contains no calcium at all which means it is designed for tap water which I don't like using

i read that browning leaf tips means dehydration.
either water more often or roots aren’t working.
in my case, i think, it’s the later.

…as budding continues.

Any chance the leaf tip was over a heater or radiator, too close to a light or against a freezing window? That looks more like heat or frost damage.

I'll cut that brown spot, put some cinnamon around the cut. Like this you'll get rid of the ugliness and go to safe place in case is an infection.

if you can see the blackest part, the original smaller “circle” of the damage, starting at the/an edge… i believe THAT was caused by experimentation with a new light, idk, 4 to 6 months ago? even after that i doubled my old… anyway, pretty sure that worse part and that it began that way.
otherwise, no, to your question. doesnt touch or near anything bad.

i ended my new light, then 2 x old light, both at greater distance, to same old one light AND farther than my first years. this has seemed to help the plant leaf color.
so whoever was saying that…

i think maybe got some kind of mold or fungi infection? and the plant, keeping more dry, cutting out root damage, repotting yet again, i think the plant is doing all the fighting by itself, mostly. because i don’t really know but to WW wait and watch — especially since i chose to let the spike go ahead, instead of cutting and concentrating on new root growth. … seems the spike is quite healthy, ready to start blooming soon.

(plus, i am or did using the bloom feed.)
i always have used the same bottled drinking water. zephryhills. because i drink it. i think it’s a neutral ph number, i forgot. but i’m not changing anyway.

maybe my phal got a fungii from my 3.5’ parlor palm. but i dont know that that is sick at all.

i thought the root damage — once i found that AFTER the lights changing stuff — i mean, i had roots, so it must have a few weeks, right, to damage roots and even the lower core. THAT probably is not caused by the light.
sooo…. here i sit, on W&W.

i’m not going to cut just yet.

tedro, if it helps yours is growing faster than mine.

But mine is being grown in low temps, it's gone down to 2 degrees at night here.

I will just add that there are too many reasons why leaf tips turn brown. It can be overfertilization but it can just as well be under fertilizing, cold, fungus, even too hot temps in theory although I have no experience with that I don't think.
Most of the time I'd say the reason you conclude it most likely was will most likely not have been the reason. It's very hard to tell.

I am carrying on experimenting with mine and if I make any big discoveries on improving things with mine I will let you know.

I don't know how much you are feeding it but like I mentioned I think a good ratio of the bettergro would be 3 parts grow to 1 part bloom, just my 2 cents.

I think it is doing ok. Like said seems to be growing faster than mine too

it’s quite cool here half the time in 60’s to low 60’s might hit 59 (f) never above 72.

having been feeding much, not compared to last 2 years; or watering as much.

i agree on your comments combo fed. i’ll try it next time.
last time was diluted (1/2 recommended amount) better bloom.
something DEFINITELY messed up my roots and turned the core black. she’s toughing it out, i hope. i just dont know.

i’m getting a better understanding of light requirement.

if we pull through this bloom cycle, should be quite a display!

btw, icymi, here’s the damage i discovered a few months ago. roots/core - Google Photos
(leaf discolor(s) have improved)
