Help with orchid identification - Orchid Board

Hi guys, hoping you could help me out real quick. Attaching two pictures, does the first one look like a miltoniopsis to you? And do you think it’s possible the second one could be a sharry baby onc? Thanks!!

Zygopetalum and some kind of Oncidium hybrid.

There are a lot of dark-flowered Oncidium hybrids.

I went ahead and bought it … excited to see what it looks like in full bloom.

from one beginner to another...it looks like that plant was riding in a grocery store basket. we’ve found that the media from grocery store orchids tends to be pest ridden, so if you aren’t going to repot immediately, which i wouldn’t with these probly, then they should probly be quarantined. our last grocery noid was a little pbulb thing from a couple weeks ago. it had slugs and millipedes in the media....lots of them. much different we’ve found than buying from orchid vendors online. just our experience, ymmv...

It was indeed a grocery store purchase; Trader Joe's. I've got it quarantined away from my others currently. Not planning on repotting it yet like you said; but will probably after the blooms fall. It didn't end up being sharry baby, which I'm okay with ... turns out it was "volcano queen". Still happy though

Beautiful. Look up Oncidium fuscum. It's probably an ancestor. Many of its progeny have a nice fragrance.

'Volcano Queen' is used by Carmela's Orchids as a clonal name for a named cross. It would be Genusname speciesname 'Volcano Queen'.

Trader Joe's sells a lot of orchids. I think stores in different parts of the US get them from different vendors. I haven't noticed bugs in the ones I've bought locally, and while usually ready for repotting, the medium hasn't been in terrible shape.

I looked it over pretty thoroughly once I got it home and it looks pretty healthy; no sign of pests or infection. Trader Joe's here too always seems to have the best quality orchids when it comes to your typical grocery store orchids. Granted, I've only bought I think three (including this one) but out of those, they've all been in wonderful condition.
