Help with rootless ascocentrum!!

Hi all!!
I received an ascocentrum orchid about 15 days back, and all it's roots were dead. I cut the roots (blackened) and kept the orchid in moss, which is moist. Now, instead of roots, the topmost leaf has started to grow (there is a band of pale green growth at it's base) .
What should I do?
