PSA: check your windows and doors
so yeah, somehow last night we (probly me, actually) accidentally left the balcony door open, and of course it got down around 10c or below with the draft. it was freezing in the house when i woke up. so of course, in a panic i cranked the heater to 5 in the main room....and then forgot to shut it off when we left for work and when we got home it was absolutely boiling.
awesome rookie move, like a 30 plus degree shift and, i had just hung a new mount of a somewhat special orchid right in front of the door....freezing to boiling cause it was sunny today

It should be alright. Most orchids are fine for a few hours as long as it doesn't get below freezing or left in full sun on a hot day.
I do have some non-orchids that are more delicate.

Tmoney,
I am pretty sure you will get one of those see-through grow tents eventually.
Look Homebox Vista Triangle günstig kaufen - Growshop Smilinggreen.de
It's the next logical step for this to not be a problem
Not that I am saying you need one. I think they are a bit pricey for smoething that won't look that neat but you will be able to provide their own climate much easier.

Hmmmm. It's been getting down into the mid 40F's here this week. Haven't given it a thought. Perhaps I should go visit the orchid growing space and shut a few windows?

that's colder than here.
Little heat wave going on here. It's the warmest September I can remember.
Heating not coming on for another 5 weeks. Gas prices have already gone up 50% so I will be extra tight this year.

Whelp, thermometer says grow space has gotten as low as 46F this week. Shut the windows. SMH. A few of the warm to hot growers look a bit off... time will tell. Obviously I needed the PSA as much as anyone here. Worst part is that AC still kicks on during the day, so I can't open the door to sunroom and let more heat in for probably another month. And by then I'll need a space heater out there. UGH!
Pretty normal fall weather here so far. Can't wait to see what this year's electric and gas fluctuation will be from the prior year. Almost, not quite, but almost makes me wish we still at least heated the house with wood. I swore by age 40 I'd no longer split wood, by 45 I'd no longer stack wood, and by 50 I'd not play Cinderella anymore. Pretty much stuck to that plan and ain't going back. I'm sure I'd quickly remember how much work is involved, but do miss it.

using wood to heat houses has been banned in the UK by now. Just came into effect this year.

It is cold today but going to get warm again tomorrow. Had to put the heat on this afternoon for the parakeet.
