Kind of looks more like an aerial root to me, but not close up enough to tell for sure. Roots have a roundish tip. Spikes, if you look at the tip closely, look more like a little mitten.

Algae won't hurt MsProlific. Too much fertilizer can. What kind of fertilizer, and what do you mean "double strength?" Using extra fertilizer on MsProlific isn't a good idea.

not feeling great, but want to post.

i think it’s a spike…?

using that MSU stuff … double means two of the provided spoon to a gallon. i’ve just see that this is 13-3-15.
the Better-Gro Orchid Better-Bloom stuff i used during flowering is 11-35-15.
i better switch to that 35, see it helps red leaves. also gonna let phal dry out a bit. i’m not sn over waterer — you guys know i did good for… gee.. 2 years? 2 blooms anyway… both with extra blooming later.

thanks, WaterWitchin.

Yup, that's a spike... better picture.

That's a lot of fertilizer Tedro... too much.

oh I hadn't seen this yet before I posted in the other thread about this one.
Good to see yours is flowering again. I agree with WW, too much fertilizer. You got nice blooms in the past, you will get even nicer ones this year but not if you change things by feeding too much.

well, i decided and did pull out my phal and trim dead roots, then repotted in prior smaller pot, with no sphagnum.

we shall see if she likes it or not.
picture is once i pulled it out.

i think the roots were healthier and more of them when i recently last repotted, but i see they weren’t as many, not as healthy. so i trimmed, repotted.

i certainly feel better about it, too much sphagnum, too wet!!! and maybe pot too big.

i also discovered one leaf has purple bottom, i understand this is may be normal (purple flowers).

i did more. i got another lamp fixture just like my original.
took away the new one, with different led array, and put in the same bulb i’ve used all along.

see pictures.

i already had two “bulbs”, but i bought a new pack. when i got home i see (these have the exact same specs) these are smaller. see pic.

for me, that would draw it into the lamp hood a bit more (not all the way). i decided to use my original backup.

of course, could be that i never needed more light (trying to make up for slight location changes). might help my spike go straighter!

i hope she likes me now.

wow. now she won’t know what to do, but try to keep pushing that spike, when she’d rather go back to making roots! (?); she may shed a number of leaves (?) to try to make it.

i believe these leaves were dehydrated, not from lack of moisture but from lack of good roots to supply them. AND, this is something that started after repot, and so was continuing unseen. the only hints of “betterment” came briefly right after watering, and, the only way to be not to overwater was to dry out more — double whammy, bad news.

ps. that picture is not where the lamps are distanced, the pic is where i move the left at night to close the blind. the right lamp (new) will be where it is, or close, i think. the left lamp comes DOWN closer. (7am-7pm timer; same as always.)
