how to repot when roots are out from vent holes

It probably goes without saying, but do not repot unless the roots are in active growth. There should be one or more new roots from the main stem and multiple other root tips actively growing. Most Phalaenopsis will grow new roots all summer, but sometimes they take a break after flowering.

Otherwise, I'm with Roberta - try working the media out. Chances are, when you try to do this it will start coming loose from the pot and you won't have to make any hard choices. My $0.02

Thank you very much for all of your answers!! I am new here and this is amazing!! I am a novice. I have 4 different colored Phalaenopsis for the last 3 -5 years and I love them dearly. The roots are in and out and around the pot and entangled mess. I am glad to hear that I do not have to repot it, but just change the media.
