That could be workable. Although, there might be more uncertainty in how wet the bark and roots are going to be inside the pot ------ unless we somehow know how it is all going to behave when you do the soaking. Such as for how long.
I think a good approach is to just pre-wet the bark - without orchid ----- whichever way we do the pre-wetting is ok, as long as the bark is just moist/damp when the time comes to potting the orchid. Not super saturated. But then again, if some people think that super saturated is ok ...... then they can go for super saturated if they want. But for me, I'm just going to recommend pre-wetted bark not saturated with water. Moist/damp will be just fine.
Also - leaving the sphagnum surrounding the roots ------- 'may' be ok ----- for some circumstances. But leaving sphagnum around the bulk of the roots can also become an issue with root-drowning. It depends on conditions.
For me, I would just go with picking out as much of the sphagnum I can - as carefully as I can ----- and then potting into the bark afterwards.
I grow orchids in the tropics ----- where humidity and temperature etc are generally quite nice for the orchids that I grow. In any case, I compiled some information that could be useful to you or anybody. So I can just add some information below.
