It's hard to say for sure from that photo, but I suggest you just run water vigorously through the root system. Stuff that breaks off was set to go. Pot it up correctly and keep it warm and humid.

Agree. This looks like an Oncidium hybrid. They are amazingly tough, so don't give up. You might wind up with a very small part of the plant surviving but with proper care it will grow on.

Looks like Maxillaria tenuifolia to me.

If you don't have KelpMax, you can get it from C&C Orchids in Hamilton ON, either through Facebook or by emailing cvarady@cogeco.ca

At first glance ------ still looks survivable. So was probably lucky this time that it was caught early enough.

I was thinking Max tenuifolia as well... at the very top of the picture I see the "stack' of a couple of pseudobulbs that gives it away.
