With potted plants, the potting medium can hold water, allowing the plant to take it up over an extended time period. With mounted plants, the pretty much only get it at the time of watering.
By soaking the plant, the mount will also absorb water, also extending the “uptake time”, but the simple fact is that mounted plants require much more frequent watering than do potted ones. As your humidity drop, even more so.
A mounted plant has lots of air movement around it, so getting the plant/leaves wet should be of little consequence.
I’d leave the old pseudobulbs alone if they are still firm, as they can act a storage vessels for the colony.
