Brown spot with dark edge on dendrobium leaf
Default Brown spot with dark edge on dendrobium leaf

I've just noticed a smallish brown spot with a dark edge that's appeared on the leaf of my dendrobium (Comet King); it's one of the larger leaves on a newly growing cane.

This is the only spot, and otherwise all the leaves on this cane and a second new one look happy and healthy. Might it be fungus? I watered it yesterday, so it's possible it got left with a stray splash of cold water.

I've been keeping this orchid on a west-facing window (UK), behind a good sheer blind; I haven't yet had any indication that it's suffering from sunburn (it's been there for a couple of months), but could that be a possibility?

I haven't been able to find any photos or descriptions of spots that look quite like this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the Orchid Board!

Something probably injured the leaf; perhaps a bug took a bite. Then fungus or bacteria may have entered the perforation.

I would take a scissors and cut off the leaf tip about a centimeter below the brown spot. I would expect no further problems.
