Hey guys, I bought this Paphiopedilum Prince Edward of York 3 weeks ago. The leaves were all up in the same direction.

In the first two weeks I placed it in the basement west facing window, and now first floor east-facing window. Both windows have shades so that the orchid will not get burnt. The new growth faces inwards and looks strange now.

Please see the photos. Is it sick? Should I give it some support to alter the directions, or any other care?

Please advice. Thank you!

Paphs often do this when light is lower than they prefer, especially when it's sideways through the window. People recommend near-Cattleya light for multifloral Paphs like this. I try to rotate mine 180 degrees every few days to keep them growing evenly. They will still flower when floppy.

Another possibility is - did you let it dry out? Paphs prefer being evenly moist without ever becoming dry. They need to be repotted every 1-2 years because most media break down rapidly kept so moist.

Thank you for your fast response. I see your point.

The weird thing is, this Paph develops to face inwards, not outwards even though put near the window in the past few weeks.

I haven't repot it yet as it arrived just 3 weeks ago. The medium (tree barks) dries fast so I water it every 3 days. How does medium or watering related to its facing? I am curious to learn it.

I don't think the direction in which it flops over is determined by watering.

Me either. I saw your brought up the watering as another possibility.

Anyway, let's see if it flops back after another week.

Thank you for your time and responses!
