Deformed flowers? Packchong Blue Vanda (pics included)
I believe this vanda is fully in bloom. I soak it daily (almost everyday) using a balance fertilizer for atleast 20 mins. It gets full sun outside and doesn't sun burn. This is the first time it has bloomed.
The problem is that the flowers are kinda wrinkled and there are little brown dead spots at the very ends in some spots.
Whats causing this?

I am by no means an expert .... but It could be stress or dryness...
Why not try posting this to the Vanda section of the Forums, Im sure some experts there would love to help you further.
Good luck
Anyhow, I think your blooms look lovely, even for those minor imperfections

How long have you owned it?
Perhaps the previous owner has used some kind of pesticide on it.
I would cut the spike off and give it one more season and see how the next blooms look. If ity looks the same well, it's up to you.

for the rest of the post I dunno, but regarding the flowers, they look fine for me. I only have one Vanda Magic Ble and its flowers look exactly the same... same for many big Vandas I have seen (especially with coerulea parents)

Soooo .......it has a couple of flaws. The beautiful vivid color more than makes up for the flaws. I like it.

Hello Patrickj,
From your pictures, the flowers look fine, the wrinkles look more like undulations in the petal.Wouldn't worry too much about that. You say its outside? a possibility is it requires watering more than once a day...subject to temperatures....if sunny and warm/hot, then thats what i'd do. Even in the UK, durring summer (if we have one)..I water/spray/dip as required. Mine are in a greenhouse, so not subject to as much evaporation as yours maybe get.
As for the brown marks....water splash?....either in the sun....or when temperatures fall on a night, condensation....V.pakchong blue is a good flowerer so enjoy the ones you have and wait till the next spike and see if things have changed.
Hope this helps.

First time blooms on any orchid may have characteristics that we don't expect. Most times, it's that the plant doesn't know what it should look like until it grows up.
Your Pakchong Blue has a very nice, upright inflorescence; the five flowers, probably 3 - 4 inches, are holding themselves well and not nodding too much. Undulations, waviness in the segments is natural for this hybrid.
Because the 'brown marks' are on the outer segments, the sepals, I suspect that the damage may have occurred while the flowers were in bud. Water on the bud may have been burned in the sun; singed edges prevent the segment from opening normally.
Looks like you have good roots under your plant, so enjoy this inflorescence now and see what happens when your plant grows up.
